Dr Marta Doehler-Behzadi took over as Director of the IBA Thüringen GmbH on 1 May 2014. After studying Urban Planning at the Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen (HAB) Weimar (the then Weimar University of Architecture and Civil Engineering) and subsequent doctoral studies, she worked for several years from 1984 at the Planning Office of the City of Leipzig. Thereafter she worked as a freelance urban planner in Leipzig. From 2007 to 2014 she headed the Division of Baukultur (Building Culture) and Protection of the Urban Architectural Heritage at the Federal Ministry of Construction. In this role, she organised the national network of IBA Partners and is therefore very familiar with the IBA processes in Germany. Dr Marta Doehler-Behzadi was born in Berlin in 1957 has two adult daughters.

Alexander Köhler joined the IBA team in 2017 as an assistant to the IBA team and managing director. After completing school, he trained as a management assistant in retail, qualifying as a certified business administrator. Previously, he worked in an administrative-managerial position in the food sector.
Kai Dolata
Project management
Kai Dolata studied architecture at the TU Dresden. He is a member of the urbikon.com group and previously taught urban and regional planning at the University of Kassel. With several years’ experience as a project manager in the IT sector, and as financial controller for the Flussbad Berlin e.V. between 2014 and 2020, he is well acquainted with financial and organisational structures. Kai has been contributing his experience to the IBA Thüringen since January 2020.

Katja Fischer is an architect and one of the founding members of the IBA Thüringen. She co-authored the IBA feasibility study and has worked as a project manager at the IBA since 2011. After studying architecture in Weimar and Rotterdam, she taught and researched from 2004 to 2011 in the fields of housing and urban and regional development, with visiting professorships at the WAAC in Washington DC / Alexandria (US) and at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. She was project manager of the Stadtland Thüringen research project which was awarded the Thuringian Award for Building Culture in 2010. She has been a partner of the office A21 architektur + kommunikation since 2006.

Kerstin Faber is a planner and urbanist, specialising in the development of new spatial identities and communal and participative design processes. She studied architecture in Dessau and Fort Lauderdale (USA) and was a project developer at the IBA Stadtumbau 2010, co-curating the final exhibition of the IBA at the Bauhaus Dessau. Thereafter she lectured in international urban design at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and founded the project office Franz Faber in Leipzig. In spring 2014, she joined the IBA Thüringen as project manager and is responsible for the first IBA Exhibition concept ‘STADTLAND’. Kerstin Faber is co-editor of the publication ‘Raumpioniere in ländlichen Regionen’ (Spatial Pioneers in Rural Regions) together with Philipp Oswalt (Spector Books, Leipzig 2013).

Tobias Haag is a founding member of the IBA Thüringen team and co-author of the IBA feasibility study in 2011. After studying architecture at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, he worked in various national and international architecture offices, including Burkhalter&Sumi Architekten in Zurich and Mitchell&Giurgola in New York. In 2006 he founded the architecture office A21 architektur + kommunikation. From 2006 to 2011, he worked in research and teaching at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the Department of Architectural Design and Housing. In 2011, he became a project manager at the IBA Workshop.

Ulrike Rothe is a founding member of the IBA Thüringen team. She has been involved since the preparatory stage at the Thuringian Ministry for Construction, Transport and Regional Development as co-author of the IBA feasibility study. Prior to that, she worked as part of the IBA Fürst-Puckler-Land (‘IBA see’) as a project developer, responsible for communications and the visitor centre. In 2010, she was responsible for the final year of the ‘IBA see’. Ulrike Rothe trained as a weaver and studied painting and graphics in Schneeberg and architecture in Weimar, Stuttgart and Copenhagen. She has worked in a Swiss-German architecture and design office, and in the field of landscape architecture at the universities of Karlsruhe and Berkeley (USA), as well as in other universities. She is a member of the Chamber of Architects and the Deutsche Werkbund, and for many years chaired the Sachsen branch of the Werkbund.

Dr Bertram Schiffers joined the IBA team as a town planner in spring 2015. After studying at the RWTH Aachen and Columbia University in New York, he worked for several years at the Büro für urbane Projekte in Leipzig. After a period as a doctoral candidate at the Department of Urban and Environmental Sociology of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), he completed his doctorate at the Department of Economics of Urban and Regional Development at the University of Kassel. Thereafter he worked freelance as a planner and lecturer. Most recently he worked at the Thuringian State Audit Office in Rudolstadt in the field of urban and regional development.

Elisa Wrobel has been with the IBA Thüringen since February 2018. Before taking up the position and returning to her home town of Jena, Elisa completed her Master’s degree in language and communication at the Technical University of Berlin and spent two years training at the Medienanstalt Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein. She has worked previously for the RBB Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting Corporation, the Deutsche Post/DHL Press Office in North Germany and the news channel N24.

Dorothee Schmidt joined the IBA team in July 2017 as an event manager. After studying tourism at the FH in Munich, she worked until 2017 for the Romantik Hotel on the Wartburg in event management, sales, marketing and publicity. In addition, she worked from 2015 to 2017 as a partner of an event agency in Witten (NRW) for clients in the trade fair and events sector, with special focus on human resources and logistics.
Nina Zerche
Curatorial Assistance
Nina Zerche studied geography, art history and social sciences in Berlin, Cadiz and Leipzig. During her studies she worked at different geographic institutes and specialized in urban, social and cultural geographic topics. For her final thesis on peripherization and collective identity she received the award of the Geographical Society of Leipzig in 2020. Post graduation, she first worked at the Office of Housing and Urban Renewal of the City of Leipzig. Since August 2021 she supports the IBA Thuringia as curatorial assistant.
